Matt Cutts Latest Update: Facebook, Twitter Social Signals Not Part of Google Search Ranking Algorithms

Matt Cutts, the head of Google’s web spam team, said in his latest webmaster help video, which asks whether Facebook and Twitter signals are part of the ranking algorithm, and how much they matter.

I think, this is definitely an interesting topic for Matt Cutts to address. Here’s is the Video:-

Facebook and Twitter pages are treated like any other pages in our web index so if something occurs on Twitter or occurs on Facebook and we’re able to crawl it, then we can return that in our search results. But as far as doing special specific work to sort of say “you have this many followers on Twitter or this many likes on Facebook”, to the best of my knowledge we don’t currently have any signals like that in our web search ranking algorithms.

Well few years back in December 2010 Matt Cutts clearly saying that “We do use Twitter & Facebook links in ranking..”

In this recent video, he is confirming that social network websites aren’t crawled or indexed different from any other website. Whether Google takes signals or not, it doesn’t matter. Because what matters for marketers is traffic and user engagement. With Facebook and twitter I have found that there is a lot of user engagement, which is a great thing and I am sure that in coming years Social Media like Facebook and Twitter will be very helpful for users engagement and sharing information.
